I think the monster is different to who ever view it. I think it might be each characters sins coming back to confront them. I think Mr. Echo would not have been killed if he had repented of his sin, instead he chose not to and it killed him.

I am a fan of the series, but I think they occasionally miss the boat (pun intended) in going off on a few too many tangents. The core story 'arc' is still, hopefully, the very question you are asking. The 'Smoke Thing' that can pick up and toss people around like matchsticks; or creep up on them and simply 'look' them in the face has to be central to whatever the 'Dharma Project' is (or was). If they resolve it with something lame like - It's purgatory, just a way station on the journey towards Heaven or Hell; well I'll be disappointed as hell.

i do watch lost, i have no idea what the "monster thingy" is it does resemble the fog tho, i liked the first series because you were scared to watch just in case they got mauled to death, theres not so much if the scariness anymore, bring back the monsters of the lost island i say lol....

In the beginning of the show, there was a big monster. I've waited patiently for them to show it. I feel duped. So I gave up on it.

Thanks to virgin media and sky I am no longer able to watch lost and I'm extremely angry about it.
However, the series seemed to be taking a nose dive and I think the dallas effect is about due, where one wakes up and it was all a dream.

No, I don't though I like Michelle Rodriguez. I am just excited about the theme of it. I watch Fear Factor a lot.

i did watch some of the first episode but then i noticed some paint drying so i watched that for a while as it was more interesting.

i watched it religiously for the first two series. theyre now stretching it out too long. too many episodes where not much happens. cant get into this new series at all.

I don't because I think the series really suck. It's boring. I really can't see why they show it on prime time on a friday night.
