Wikipedia defines it this way: "Electromagnetism is the physics of the electromagnetic field; a field encompassing all of space which exerts a force on particles that possess the property of electric charge, and is in turn affected by the presence and motion of those particles.
The magnetic field is produced by the motion of electric charges, i.e. electric current. The magnetic field causes the magnetic force associated with magnets."

The whole Wiokipedia article should tell you as much as you want to know abou electromagnetism, and how it works, but the quotation above is the gist of the answer that you want.

electro magnetism is a magnetic force that is made by putting a coil of wire around a non magnetic metal. when an electric currant is passed through the wire the metal will become magnetic. the easiest way to demonstrate this is to twist a copper wire around a iron nail then put a currant into the wire and the nail will act as a normal magnet even though it won't normally.

i hope u already know that the study of magnets is called magnetism. And the phenomenon of inducing voltage by changing the magnetic field in a coil is called electro- magnetism.

simply speaking, electricity has its own magnetic field, so in certain substances(preferably good conductors of electricity) wen electricity passes through the substance it creates a magnetic field, nd so the subtance acts as a magnet as long as the current is on
