It's never happened to me but whenever I go to the gyno she always asks if my periods are normal. I know that if you suddenly have an onset of a heavy period there could be a medical problem. Go see a dr. this could be something serious.

Heavy periods are a symptom of low progesterone the last half of your cycle. You can try a progesterone cream on days 15-26 of your cycle, with day 1 being your period. Pro-Gest is a brand you may be able to find locally.
When taking progesterone cream start out low and increase base on your symptoms.
Example:
1/4 tsp days 15-26
if you still have symptoms of low progesterone
add a second dose of 1/4 tsp.
Keep increasing by each dose by 1/4 until you feel better.
The goal is to take as little as possible, because if you take too much progesterone will convert over to estrogen.
The best book on hormores is by Steven Hotze.

everyone is different, mine used to be very heavy & 2 months later light and last longer- the cycle schedule, days it lasts and flow can change- sometimes a late period can be heavier at first and stress can affect it, so can hormones, if u take any medicine, changes in your diet- it should be back to normal next time and if it stays heavy u might want to try tampons (especially when u go out)....eat food with iron cuz losing blood from a heavy period can lower iron and cause anemia which makes u tired

Yes it happens in my case my periods are so heavy that I try the best I can not to go out in public. For me it happens every time I'm menstruating and they last long more then a week. If you have medical coverage which I don't. And think something may be wrong go see a doctor. If your a teen speak to your mom about your problem have her go with you.

Yes, it's happened. But, I can't think of anything going on. Mine are usually about the same, but sometimes it's heavier or lighter.

How old are you? If you have had your period for more than a couple of years and you are sexually active and there is a possibility that you could be pregnant, please see your GP or emergency room immediately.
