I either want a Civic SI, RX-S type S, or the Mazdaspeed 6 or even maybe the V6 Mustang. Which car would be the best to tune up and be the fastest and not burn that much fuel. Or if you have any other suggestions

NONE of the above. Get yourself an early 90's Foxbody 5.0 with a 5-speed, in economical driving you can get almost 30 MPG highway and the V8 will whoopass over any of those other cars when you unleash the ponies.

As the truckers say, "Put the pedal to the metal." Any car will go fast then. Even my old dodge omni would book it if I floored it. So whatsup with needing the fast car? Got somewhere you need to be or get away from in a hurry? Gonna run an ambulance company on the side? Fast cars don't impress anybody anymore. Mercy, here come all the thumbs down from the guys. But the girls know better. I had a Mazda 280z .. - never mind. Course a nice little 911s Porsche would be a fun toy.
jeffrey, you're right about the mustang. But then I'm old enough enough to remember my first Z28 too. And my first Chevy El Camino, and stingrays, and vettes and......

If you want power and fuel economy, go with japanese. The SI and the Type S are good cars, they can go real fast with not a lot of money. You can also try a use S2000 and a use RX7 the (last model) both look good, and fast and their a list list of aftermarket for these two car. Fuel economy is not that good, better than the V6 mustang.

Lets see a butch of Honda's a Mazda and a V6 Mustang. Well with that fine selection. The only way you can include the words fast car in that sentence. Is to make sure the word not is in the same sentence.

You want a fast car. 1967 Dodge Cahrger w/ 440 6 pack. that should do you, or even a 1971 Plymouth Baracuda w/ 426 Hemi. I prefer classic Muscle myself, so that is what I suggest.

Speed and fuel efficiency eh? look for the Hybrids. Lexus has some 340 HP hybrid that runs better fuel economy than almost all of above.
