All the previous answers are correct. There's lots to love about kangaroos. But, they are not rare. There are around 15 million kangaroos hopping around Australia. There is a cull each year that takes about 10 to 15 % of the 15 million just to prevent a population explosion. Along with kangaroos there are many species of Wallabies hopping around out there as well. I think America's love of kangaroos stems in part from the TV show Skippy...only the oldies amongst us will remember it. And of course there's Kanga and little Roo from Winnie the Pooh! Along with being part of Australia's coat of arms, the kangaroo just says Australia! And...although I raise and rehab roos I do love the odd kanga banga! (Kangaroo Sausages).

When I first read your question, I thought you meant popular in regard to the meat it produces. Here in Australia, yes, kangaroo is VERY popular. You will find it in all supermarkets and on all menus in the restaurants, cafes, etc. It is a very tasty lean meat, and very healthy to eat (no cholesterol , fat etc) the 'fillets' cost more than the 'steaks' (depends on the cut you see) because the fillets are the most tender. Delicious done on the barbie. Yum Yum. We have heaps of kangaroo just up the road in the paddocks, they are coming closer to towns now because of the drought they cannot find enough food . The babies are called 'joeys'. Despite our culinary delight in them, we are not at all cruel, if most of us find a 'roo that has been hit by a car, most of us will stop and check if there is a joey still alive in the pouch, and if so, wild life rescue comes to the rescue.!!

I luv kangroos because they have the most carring and caring mother haha.
I really want to take a ride in her little sak that holds her baby. I want to hold my baby like that too.
It's also a very rare animal that we all see only in cartoons or pictures. I remember when I was little there was this cartoon called ... Skipi, about a little boy's pet kangroo and since then I've always wanted to see one, but as we all know, we can't. None of the zoos that I've visited have it, so if you know of any, let me know and I'll go there.
It's also from Australia. Australia is a very popular country too and most of its animals, such as Koala bears and Ostrich are very cute and popular too.
