Confront the girl , tell your daughter to do it, or call the daughters mother and tell her its rude. Your daughter had the dress first, i would kick the girls ***.

If your daughter picked that dress independent of what anyone else is wearing and she loves it, then she should not let anyone take that from her. She will shine in all her originality and the other girl will be just a knockoff. She should wear it with the confidence of being her own person. There is a lot of honor in being true to yourself. If it is truly upsetting he, explain the situation to the store you purchased it at, I'm sure they will do their best to accommodate your needs. DO NOT let her go to her prom in a dress she would pick as a second choice, even if every girl there has the same dress. This will be her only prom. Good luck.

Why change it as even though the dress style is the same its in a different colour. so it will look different.
I would change the accessories and have the hair done differently
You will probably find that there will be a few others in the same position as you are. they are likely to have all gone into similar shops any way. There isn't that many styles to choose from either as I found out when I was looking for a dress for last years xmas party.

I would definitely try. Go to Debenhams. Don't mention purchase date and see if you can exchange it for something else and explain to a 'female', sympathetic looking, older assistant that it is for a prom and that 'another' girl has exactly the same dress..... hopefully the shop assistant will be so engrossed in the situation, that they won't even look at the date.
If that fails, you could email me a pic of the dress, I could probably offer some simple altering suggestions. I know a great dress maker who does alterations (for cheap!) - but I'm in London.

If its a nice dress, keep it. Dont let that other girl make you change your dress. After all you bought it first. Just take your daughter to the store, and add better accessories and things. Like maybe a beautiful shawl, and then make her hair look beautiful. Go all out, and make sure she looks the best in the dress you bought for her, so theres no mistake on who DESERVES to flaunt it.

Im sure ur daughter looks nicer than her anyways... tell ur daughter no matter what that other girl wears, ur daughter will be prettier.. the other girl is so un original and has no sense of individuality... oh well... make up, a scarve, and cute accesories can really make a difference! your daughter should be flattered that people love her style and want to be like her! hahah tc hope she has a great time! xx
oh yeah and try taking it back to the shop, they might exchange it for you, you never know... explain the situation, sometimes they can really be sympathetic and helpful... or... you could sell the dress on e-bay or something:s ?!

Wearing the same outfit as a person can be really emabarrassing for a girl. Let her wear it. However add completely different accessories. Accessories can make a cheap dress look expensive and a going out dress casual. You just need to buy the right ones.

Hahaha sounds like my friends, girls... cant seem to think for themselves. I say if you cant return it tell your daughter to just walk in with her head held high knowing she is better than the other girl and not even to acknowledge the fact that its the same dress, JUST because its the same dress on 2 different people, does not mean that theyre the same person. But wait a sec... as im reading this, I noticed your saying its not the same color? theres a difference there, it could be worse, she could of gotten the same color! But anyways. Just tell your daughter to suck it up basically, because theres not much she/you can do about it.
just be thankful its not the same ding dang color.

You can call the store and explain the circumstances. Sometimes you'll get a very compassionate sales person.
How expensive was it? You can always sell it on Ebay.
If it was my daughter, I would take her to the store immediately and pick her out a gorgeous new dress , no matter what the cost. That other girl won't know what hit her! ha! ha!

You could always buy some different accessories...and usually find them cheap at claire's or somewhere like that. Different accessories, and a different hairstyle and no one will notice. Besides it shouldn't matter, the prom is time for fun. :)
