Yes, let's say your standing on top of a tall building at it's edge. If you didn't have the fear of falling you wouldn't bother to be careful and there fore risk falling off.

I think fear is a basic instinct and is necessary to survive. If we felt no fear about anything, then we would walk in front of speeding cars, jump off buildings, walk up to wild animals, etc. Some fear is necessary for our survival.

If you equate fear with good sense, then, yes, we do. We wouldn't live long without it. On the other hand, fear can get out of hand and turn us into (at least internally) cowering fools. Some fear is genetic, others learned. We will have to create ways to raise children without fear, yet with good sense to be able to eliminate the learned version. We have a L - O - N - G way to go.

Without a certain amount of fear you would be killed. For instance the fear of being run over keeps a person from walking down the fast lane of a freeway, or the fear of falling keeps people from jumping off cliffs. Common sense has a fear component built into it.

Fear is necessary to stay alive. If we didn't have fear we would do some really stupid stuff, like drive 150 miles per hour or try to fly off high buildings.

Hi!
Fear is a form of awareness & protection for the human mind I think! I'm David Elton. I run a self help website for when life sucks. find your way forward!

http://www.yourwayforward.net

People change when the pain of doing the same thing becomes more than the pain of changing.

when reaching this point you'll look for self help, a way forward!
In the words of old, wise 'Yoda' : 'If life sucks worry not you must'. 'Help for self - seek you must for a way forward find will you!'

Fear is what keeps us from danger. This is why most of us don't run into danger, because danger can kill you.

Yes. If we didn't have fear, we would probably all end up dead. For example, if we didn't fear AIDS, we would all have casual, unprotected sex and die.
