Language is only a vessel for the thought and though it might be pleasant to drink from crystal glasses I would prefer good wine from a paper cup to bad one from a silver cup.

Certainly , we think and communicate through sounds as a language , so thoughts orginate first and get formed as language , so there can be thoughts without a language.

yes. thoughts aren't just words. there's images, feelings, sounds...
language is simply one by-product of thought, i think. besides, to use some of the best cliches floating around, "we think, therefore we are," "our life is shaped by our mind, we become what we think" ... or something. i'm out of language now, to express my thoughts, but i know what i mean even without the words, do you? sorry. (really gotta learn silence while i'm on caffeine-buzz)

One of the things that has always creeped me out about babies is that they have no words. I've always wanted to know WHAT is going through their heads...but it's obvious that, even without words, SOMETHING is making them laugh...frown...cry, so - yes, there has to be thought without words...
