I think she is a good person. She was born and raised 30 miles from where I live. I am so sick of hearing about her schools that she is opening. I think she should open schools here in the US for the benefit of the children here.
There are kids out there needing some type of special need, but no one is doing anything about it, she could put her money into the lively hood of Americas kids instead of putting it somewhere in wherever.

PLEASE: Be kind, if you do not like my opinion, just do not post, and please do not post hurtful things.

I agree. Why do most Celebrities from the US, help others from other countries and the people in the US. Why do they keep adopting children from other countries too? There are plenty of American children who need good home also!

I think Oprah has a good heart. Some are giving her a hard time because she opened a school in Africa but not one here in the US. Did you know that she also donated $10 million for Katrina Relief, or that every year she gives millions of dollars in scholarships to kids for colleges She builds homes for needy (over 100 for Habitat for Humanity), donates money to Boys and Girls club, and much more. She is building schools in Africa and yes our schools in America need help but we have schools here and we all have an opportunity for an education. Many places in Africa do not have schools.

Oprah is not the only rich person in the US. There are plenty more that can and do donate. The focus shouldn't be put on her. Even YOU can make a difference. Are you good at a subject in school? Maybe you can tutor kids. Go to the library and read to children. Kids see that you are good in school or that you enjoy reading it can motivate them to do better. Be a role model! You can make a difference in other's lives by showing the good in you.

Oh yes I do believe her and I admire her. She is lucky because she can really express her good will to others by putting up schools, etc. It doesn't really matter to me where she builds that school, what's important is she does good things to humanity. It's Oprah and it's her decision. Hope I could be like her but it's just not gonna happen. I am just an admirer of people like her.

I think she is a good person that went through a lot. The reason I thinks she helps children in other countries, is bacause of their goverment. Third world countries need much help. Living in Africa and living in the US are totally different. They don't have public schools other there like we do.

I think that we should just be grateful that she is doing something good for ANY children. How can you hate on someone who is doing ANYTHING good? She could be doing NOTHING, ya know? We could all be doing things to help children in need, for example, I mentor and tutor young teen girls on parole. I'm not trying to toot my own horn, I'm simply saying that everybody could afford to do SOMETHING, even if you're not able to give financially. If we all did something, then we would'nt be worried about what Oprah's doing abroad.

I'll probably be mercilessly slagged for this one, but I think if someone chooses to help kids in a terribly depressed continent it's OK. I subscribe to "charity begins at home" but she isn't the U.S. government throwing money at a problem and I bet each one of the kids who otherwise wouldn't receive an education appreciate it.
