I think one of some practical ways regarding developing your language and communication is definitely concerned with practice for more skills till you can achieve functional proficiency. In other words, such fluency needs innate knowledge ready for your, say, speaking or writing (expression modes) and listening or reading (comprehension modes) whenever you are in the world of that particular language. Therefore, it is wise to go abroad for a year or two studying in, say, the UK, the USA or Australia. I'm sure you will definitely improve your language (presumably, English) and communication.

take classes at your local community college, practice by writing in a diary, do blogs online, and write old fashioned letters to everyone you can think of, and always use the best language you know how to use.
After a few classes go back and compare your work to what you are currently doing and you will be surprised.
