If you like to be a very professional nurse who specialize in one field such as surgery nurse or obstetrician nurse (for pregnant women), then you must take 4 years of college in Nursing. If you're taking 2 years associate, then you'll just become a General Nurse. Remember, specialized nurse can be paid higher than General Nurse just like doctors do.

In USA, you can either go the Associate's Degree in NUrsing or Bachelor Science in NUrsing degree either of which are pre-requisites for sitting the NCLEX-RN exam in order to become a Registered Nurse.

I'm half Aussie-half American. In Australia, the Bachelor of Nursing degree takes 3 years to complete, after which you can apply for a Registered Nurse license. If you graduate from an Australian university, you do not need to sit for a licensing exam, however, you much be proficient in both spoken and written English.

in the US the nursing program is about 2 years long, but good luck getting in. the waiting lists have waiting lists and your acceptance is basically dependent on a lottery.
