I agree with you 100%!
I don't understand this either.
The saying "cant help others until you help yourself" should be applied to America.

I couldn't agree more. We in America have a lot of issues to work out, yet the Bush Administration is so fascinated with the Middle East. I hope our new president we elect in 2008 works on some issues we have here in the United States.

So, do you give to charity? Have you solved all the problems in your family?

Is it possible to solve all of our problems first?

Using such an excuse to not help those in the most need makes no sense.

When it comes to basic needs, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out how to help. However, the old adage still holds true, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."

The government only helps out countries that can benefit us in some way. That's why we are in Iraq. I guess they think that are problems aren't as important, but they are wrong unfortunately.

You got the point. It's actually not about helping, it's about glamour. Politicians would like to look great in the eyes of the nation... It's about looking good in the eyes of domestic public and reinforcing their interests in other counties.

Instead of reducing poverty in their own country they're sending money to all 3rd World countries trying to look good, plus they're spending billions of dollars to fight war in places they don't even know where they are.

Because we like to play the role of humanitarian to show our superiority and to pretend like we as a society care. It is a bit hypocritical that things are this way, you are right!

because the countrys leaders dont have their stuff straight....we are building stuff up in iraq while they blow it up the next day, while here hurricanes, tornadoes, mudslides, and fires destroy our country, not to mention the poverty here, and the lack of education destroy us. we cant have a country without our people, but they dont understand...i mean sure it is nice to thelp them, but we need to help ourselves too...

Maybe everybody is too busy to look around and what's happening nearby, its the fact that nearby things are less ingnored..

Yeah, I'm with you. Help out your home before you help out you alleged neighbors that probably wouldn't help you out in return.
