I usually clean my iron with kitchen cleaner (comet) and steel wool, I heat the iron up for a few mins, and then unplug it. Spinkle a comet and scrub the grime off with the steel wool.
The iron is now free of the grime.

Stuff it finished of white vinegar and permit the vinegar stand interior the iron for extra or less an hour. The hit the steam button, lay the iron flat on cord mesh or some thing like that so it would not get caught and wait fro each and all the steam to expire. positioned some thing under the iron to collect in spite of airborne dirt and airborne dirt and mud falls out of it.

Look in any store that sells irons. There are several iron cleaning products that usually run under $3. I use a solid product called Iron Cleaner that looks a bit like a lipstick. For other examples, go to Froogle.com and type in Iron Cleaner.

I do what the one above does with the steel wool but I have never used comet. The steel wool cleans it really good. Then I plug it back in and use a towel and iron over it to make sure all the stuff comes off on it before I use it on my clothes!

Rub it all over with a bar of soap. Heat it up a little, and wipe of really well with a stiff cloth. Then use it on an old towel or similar to get any excess soap off.

Make a small ball out of aluminum foil and rub it on the bottom of the iron.

I think I would try Goo Gone. Let it set on there for a while and try to wipe clean.
