While the Grandia battle system is fun, I don't think that it is the best. For the first 10 or so hours the system is a blast to play. But then it begins to feel very very repetitive. It all just begins to be nothing but breaking enemy attacks over and over again.
Namco's "Tales" series probably has the best battle system of any RPG. It really is the only RPG where I enjoy random battles. It is fast, real-time, requires strategy, and is fun.
Another great battle system is from the "Shadow Hearts" series. Sure it is turn-based, but the Judgment Ring system adds some skill to go along with strategy. As the series continued into the third game the system was incredibly fine-tuned. Linking combos, the speed of the battles, and being able to modify the Judgment Ring itself to your liking all add up to making any battle a blast to play.

I believe that the grandia rpgs system is way too complex for the avg. gamer.... it depends on how good you are at rpg's....if you are a beginner, dont go for it,if yuouve got some rpg experience, go for it, it might be up your alley
