With every new release of software os x gets FASTER! the 64 bit OS is just one of the ways it will accomplish this.
Unlike Windows which gets slower and requires new hardware with each new release,
I understand your fear! Microsoft's first try at at 32 bit OS was a flop! Did they ever do anything right the first time?
I have nothing to fear from apple.

No 64 Bit will not make the computer run slower but faster if you are using a 64 Bit application Also Others cant run 64 Bit Programs
Well most processors in current PC's The news ones seem to have them
