Its usually 2-6 weeks of bleeding after an abortion. It should start immediately after the procedure and be heavy, then it will get lighter over time. Once that is over, you could have a period immediately or a month later. Everyone is different.
A couple things you might want to know and be prepared for:
-In case you use tampons, after the abortion you will have to use pads until your first normal period.
-You will have antibiotics to take, they prevent infection and are very important. Make sure you finish all of them!
-When you come home, you will feel pretty crappy. You might want to have someone stay with you for a day or two.
-You might be nauseous, so have liquid food around. Soups, Jell-O..things like that.
- If the clinic doesn't give you pain medication for the cramping, try something like Tylenol extra Strength or Midol.

well all of the answers that offer u advice are different, its true it does depend on u... id just like to comment on the smart *** comments who are obv made by people who have never had to make such an impossible decision ! im sure theyre not perfect ! Who is ? people do this because of fear, because of wrong timing, because of lack of education at a very young age, because of rape , its isnt right... but sometimes people are left without a choice.... its not nice for anyone !
To you .... i say watch out.. get counselling before and for a long time after it can takes years to cope with & it never really goes away, you will always remember each relevant date, the day of the abortion, the due date, each birthday that never was, forever after, your mental health is important too. good luck love. ann

3-6 weeks. If it doesn't return after 6 weeks you need to be checked, incase anything got left behind. (Experence from having a D&C due to miscarriage)

some people bleed for 2-6 weeks, but for me i only bled for about 4 days after the abortion... and my period returned about a month afterwards. everybodies body is different, and it is best to talk with the people at the clinic about your questions, as well as immediately start using some form of contraceptive after the abortion because your hormone levels will have changed and your chance of conceiving another baby will be much higher.

Its pretty quick. About 2 weeks you will start your next cycle. I got this birth control Ortho Tricyclin Lo, or something like that. Its like a low dosage. And my period only lasts a day. Its great. After going through a terrble ordeal like that I learned to look at sex in an entirely different way! Just please PLEASE don't be awake for it. I was and it was SO scary! If you are put to sleep you don't feel a thing. Regardless of what the freaks on here might try to scare u with. just make sure u ask about the free birthcontrol I got like 5 months worth ;)

it soon gets back to normal, as the other posts said.
do NOT listen to the freaks who will bad mouth you with their tunnel-visioned, bigoted, foolish opinions!
i'm neither pro- or anti- abortion. i had to have one and it was upsetting but the other consequences were far worse. my friend had to have one as baby so deformed it would die in the womb, and leaving it in there not good physically (infections) or mentally (carrying round a dead baby not good for mental health)
so all you smug, self-opinionated, nonsense-talking freaks who judge 1st without knowing the reasons, F**K off!
on a practical note, ensure you have soemone to stay with you for 24-48 hours after you get home. may feel dizzy/weak/nauseous etc. also may want to talk it thru, or may just want silent moral support.
you may want counselling, you may be fine. i dont agre that you remember every date etc etc, thats just self torture and not necessary so try not to dwell on things unecessarily, but see a counsellor if feel need to. i wish you all the best. stay strong :) xx
