This is a question geared more for the straight members of Yahoo! answers. It has been said that gays can not/should not be in the military. Recently, pro-sports was an area where a lot of people expressed discomfort at the idea of sharing a lockerroom with a gay man. Some people seem uncomfortable with the thought of openly gay teachers, members of law enforcement, ministers, and even nurses, doctors or healthcare providers.
If you do feel some of these situations are inappropriate for gays to serve in please add why. Likewise, if you are OK with it (as a straight person) why doesn't it bother you?

I open this up to SERIOUS discussion only!!!! No stupid answers please.

Thanks for taking the time.

I think that people are people no matter their sexual preference, race, language, skin color etc. and no job should be denied to anyone. As long as the person has the necessary education and training required for the position I am fine with it. For anyone against it look at it this way, if you were dying and the only doctor present in the hospital you are rushed to is gay would you let him save your life? Or die just because you don't agree with his sexual orientation? If you say you would rather die, then so be it, you are ignorant.

I feel it would be inappropriate to openly express your horniness for someone whose affiliation you aren't sure of. If you're mature enough to keep your eyes and hands to yourself like everyone else then go ahead and think whatever you want. Heck, I don't even care if you check me out in the locker room for a second. But you'd better ask around or wait and see if you see me in the gay bar before you make any move. I assume gay people already know this very reasonable etiquette? Although there have been a couple of times when a gay dude has said something to me and I found it very rude, though not threatening, so maybe you need a lesson before we let you in everywhere openly?

I think that people are taught intolerance. I don't understand what the hell difference it makes whether your gay or straight, if you do your job well, you do your job well! People will always be afraid of what they don't know. People need to open their minds and realize that we are all human beings FIRST!

I think anyone qualified to do any job should be able to do it.

Anything else is just ignorance and irrational fear.

We are all people.

We all have done wrong.

Why should this matter?
