Jessica, I commend you on being able to maintain a diary. This is definitely a more personal approach to keeping memories, very traditional but something can said for maintaining tradition. I know personally I don't have the dedication to keep a blog or a diary/journal ( for you manly men). Websites can crash, diaries don't. On the one hand, it is nice to see a peek into someone else's life and sometimes it can even save them if they are depressed/suicidal because it would be publicly known. But, for the most part I feel those that keep blogs wish to share with the world how they feel (which is still a great way to relieve stress) because they like/need the attention. Whether they do or not isn't my business, but thats what the majority seems like. It seems almost selfish to publicly post your feelings, it can sometimes really hurt other people, and their reputations. Besides, 50 yrs down the road, wouldn't it be nice to hand down journals of yourself to your grandchildren, or special family members? That intimacy, that bonding is infinitely more personal than a silly link to a website that might be long gone years down the road.

Keeping a journal, as I call it, makes you smarter, mentally healthier and more productive a human being. Not only do you preserve your memories, experiences, thoughts, goals, passions, but you organize and build them as you write. Plus getting all those words, ideas, and everything out and down on a document frees up your mind for new ideas to form. When you go back to read your journals months or years later, you see how far you've come, what you've changed about yourself, and what issues keep coming up.

The best way to do it is to use a program with serious encryption so you can write everything and anything without self-editing and know that no one else will ever read it.

HI JESSICA,

I STARTED MY FIRST DIARY WAY BACK IN THE EARLY EIGHTIES & HAVEN'T STOPPED YET.

IT IS A GREAT WAY TO CHERISH THE PAST.

MAYBE I AM A TRADITIONALIST.................
