Really smart people are often called geeks, particularly if they do not act or dress quite like everyone else. In the 80's, we called them nerds, in the 70's, eggheads. In a world obsessed with fitting in, they didn't. However, since the 90's, I think they have been accepted as rugged individualists just like other types of rugged individualists, and it can be very good to be a geek.
