Some of the smaller private schools do not require a teaching degree. You may still need some college or a degree in something, but for these smaller schools, a teaching degree is not always necessary.

Not sure where you're from but there are many districts in So Cal that will hire Subs with a BA or 80+ units without a degree. Some districst pay $100+ a day. Most places you need a teaching credential. But if the district likes you, there's always ways around it or to prolong it. Say, a Pupil Personnel Credential without a teaching credential should allow you to be a V.P. at elementary level. Just throwing it out there.

Most teachers are state employees. The state isn't flexible on teaching credentials, including a degree. Also, you'd need a teaching certification, which you can't get without a degree.

Perhaps you should consider going back to school?

It depends greatly on where you live. In Texas, there are provisions for teaching without a certificate so long as you have 30+ hours.

You should contact the school district administration (not the school board) for more information. Good luck.

I teach in Connecticut and our building para professionals do not have degrees. They have to pass a basic skills test and that test allows them to work one on one with children who have special needs or a 504 plan.
