i'm looking to go to college in the fall and i'm very driven and inspired by fashion and i am thinking of studying it in college, but i'm really quite unaware of what specific careers come from the fashion industry other than the obvious fashion designer...and i'm looking for a profession that is actually obtainable....does anyone have more insight into which careers are common or careers in general that are part of the fashion industry?

There are many types of positions available.

But most basically comes under 3 categories:

1) Designer (pattern cutters eg)
2) Merchandise (Buy, travel aroud look for trends)
3) Sales (Sell, where the marketing comes)

It's a pretty tiring job other some might view it as glamorous.
The starting pay isn't that impressive for someone new in the field, but the potential is great if you are persistent.

There's a tough competition in the world out there. I recommend you get a degree in a more general field and take courses and certs on the fashion world.

If you are REALLY keen. Do take a look at the fashion schools around, the big name ones should enable you to get to a fashion house pretty easily.

All the best!
