There's this guy (he befriended me here at Y!A) and we'd been chatting & it's really cool. He says he 17 (11th grade) - so to get a better idea of his "temperament", I analyzed his profile - all his Qs & As. What I read confirmed my earlier suspicion - this is not a high school kid - he could really articulate his thoughts well and his grammar is definitely an A+++. So I asked him straight --- "I don't think you are in HS...more like 23-24...why don't you level with me?" He insisted he is in HS. So I tried another tactic - I started using big words - and sarcasms - and figurative speech even - AND still he would understand me and was very quick with his retort. And yeah, rarely did he ever spell a word incorrectly. Weird, huh? Another thing, this guy's favorite topic seems to be cheerleading...really weird!
So, what do you think of this guy? High school or not? Please don't go into the love feelings angle - that's out of the question.
Thanks for listening.

You cannot judge a person's age by his venacular alone. Though I personally would stop talking to him, musical taste and favorite bands might be a better indicator of age. If he seems very much aware new popular bands, I would say that he is much older. If I were an older perverted guy I would take special care as to use slang in my speech and infrequent typo o's. Keep in mind, there is also that handy spell check button on here that most fail to utilize.

Go with your instincts, if you think he's lying after all your investigations don't keep chatting. Though some high schoolers can have excellent grammar. Either way the thoughts are eventually up to you.

A 24 year old doesn't necessarily have a better vocabulary than an 18 year old. Of course that doesn't mean you are wrong but why take a chance? If you are uneasy stay clear of him.

As hard as that is to believe, there are some articulate, literate high school students out there.

There are some in high school who are well-read and articulate. But, if you have doubts, it's time to pull away. :)
