Scripture in box below!
Unfortunately for those of us who are Christians, this scripture and Matthew 24:34 have lost their initial power.
Many Christians observe intensely world events so as to identify when the last prophecies are fulfilled. When over the last several decades, we have seen peace and security being worked on seriously in the Middle East without any lasting results, it finally has come to the point where just because there is an ongoing effort to create peace that that in itself clearly is not what is talked about.
For this reason, what caused premature excitement in the past, no longer does so.
The scripture will be fulfilled - but it will take us all by surprise since the number of peace attempts are staggering.

"For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape." 1Th 5:3
You need to read the verses immediately before and after to understand:
1 Thessalonians Chapter 5
"(1)But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. (2) For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. (3) For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. (4) But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. (5) Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness."
This means that Christians know that Jesus's Second Coming will come like a thief in the night (unexpectedly to those who are not vigilant, watching for Him). When the rulers of the day (of the Second Coming) are saying "peace and safety" then they will have sudden destruction like a woman in labor (pains that start out slowly, and build up into repeatedly stronger, closer together, more devastating pains) and those rulers will not escape the fury. Believers are children of the Light and should not ignore the signs of the times.
Basically, this is a warning that the end is near and the Antichrist is about to be revealed.

1 Thessolians. 5:3
--It means when the nations world wide proclaim the fallacy of FINALLY WE HAVE PEACE & SECURITY(without God's Kingdom bringing it on--.."thy Kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven...") meaning a worldly facsimile of Peace & Safety, and it does indeed have the trademark of hypocrisy ---Then God will bring on the Great Tribulation which will lead into his war of armaggedon.
--As far as how long this false premise of PROCLAIMING OF SAFETY & PEACE--goes on before God intervenes, we do not know.
Please note how it was in Israel in their false security presentation:
(Jeremiah 6:13-14) “13Â “For from the least one of them even to the greatest one of them, every one is making for himself unjust gain; and from the prophet even to the priest, each one is acting falsely. 14Â And they TRY TO HEAL(my caps) the breakdown of my people lightly, saying, ‘There is peace! There is peace!’ WHEN there is no peace.”
--Its similar to the claim of 1 day peace on Christmas day that sometimes the wars are stopped for that short time.
--Of interest is how Jesus shows that the peace the world proclaims as the "peace process"--has no genuine strength to it, to be lasting, Please note:
(John 14:27) “27Â I leave YOU peace, I give YOU my peace. I DO NOT give it to YOU the way that the world gives it. Do not let YOUR hearts be troubled nor let them shrink for fear.”
--Notice what has to be present if true peace is to flourish:
(James 3:17-18) “17 But the wisdom from above is first of all chaste, then peaceable, reasonable, ready to obey, full of mercy and good fruits, not making partial distinctions, not hypocritical. 18 Moreover, the fruit of righteousness has its seed sown under peaceful conditions for those who are making peace. . .”
--There has to be those fruitages mentioned along with peace, without them the peace claimed is ABSOLUTLY not genuine.
