the machines have built in coin sizers since the coins are different sizes it can easily distinguish what it is. They dont scan the coin its all in the size of it.

There are two types. One type weighs the coin, the other type sorts the coins mechanically. Either way, coins that don't pass muster are rejected if we're lucky. If we're not the bogus coins jam the machine.
