My 1997 sunfire has a problem where the domelight stays on after the car is shut off and doors are closed. we have replaced the fuse, but it still happens. The only way to shut it off is to take the fuse out.

make sure your light switch on the dash is not all the way to the right, you should be able to hear or feel a click when it's all the way to the right, thats the dome light on, back it off to the left until you feel the click again, if that doesn't fix the problem it has to be one of the door switches stuck or bad.

First make sure it is not the light switch. Turn it clockwise and see if it comes on or not.

Then make sure the dome light does not have a slide button.

Then inside the door are buttons. When the door opens it relieves the pressure on the switch and your light turns on. It may be stuck. But I bet this is what is wrong. Make sure you check passenger and drivers side. Mr. Mechanic for 38 years should know this. lol I have been a mechanic for 38 minutes and I know that already.

But buy the Haynes Repair Manual and it will have the diagram and you can figure out whats wrong.

i hope you have already tried this, but have you turned the dome out at the switch???

I know I had problems like this with another car and I simply took out the bulb itself. Pain in the butt to keep pulling fuses and lights when you don't need them on.
