Well I'm actually a liberal but I can tell you about some good old days they were really good too. 1. parents yelled at us to turn down that noise usually Hendrix or the Stones or Zepplin.
2.Saturday Night Live was actually live. 3. When a President tried to be above the law members of his own party went to him and said "Hey bud it's over you gotta go or we impeach you" he went. 4. Parents could spank a misbehaving kid and not get hauled into court and kids behaved so as not to get spanked.5. The only kids who wore helmets to play were the ones prone to falling out and it was so they didn't smash their heads, other "regular" kids were able to enjoy life and not slam their heads into things too much. 6. the "bad" kids didn't bring guns to a knife fight in fact weapons at a fight were considered for pussys. 7. Smokers were not made to be second-class citizens. 8. a picture of a baby on a bearskin rug was not porn it was cute. 9. you could own a dog whereever you lived. 10. Cereal was not $5.00 a box and they had really cool prizes in the box too, and the prizes in Cracker Jacks weren't crap either. 11. Church was in Church and not the Congress or Whitehouse or any government agency for that matter. 12. There was actually music videos on MTV which at that time stood for Music Television and it was actual music too no spit and yelling into a mic to a computerized drum machine and calling it rap or hip hop,no you had to have talent. 13. the cartoons didn't have to have "life" messeges and no idiot TV preacher accused Elmer Fudd of being gay. 14. Wolfman Jack was host of The Midnight Special on NBC on Friday nights at what time? Midnight! 15. Jukeboxes only cost 25 cents for 3 songs same price for a pinball machine. Just a few good old day things.

That is of course selective attention. The further you go back in time, the smaller the life expectancy is for a person born in a certain year. That is the best example of how the "good old days" were really not that good. For every good thing from the good old days, there is many more things that are better today.

Stripped of the (more or less) polite rhetoric?
The antebellum South. Nobody around but Anglo Saxon protestants and blacks--and they were slaves.

well... welfare seemed to start with the new deal in the 40s... so it can't be since then... since they hate welfare... right?
I guess it was during the industrial revolution... when children sweatshops were common, many died on the job and the wealthy owned 99 percent of all wealth and land...
and of course... black people and women couldn't vote or get any job that paid decently...

That would be back before the media was everywhere...and people didn't question the government and its motives. Was a good time to be in control...because you had control. Laws and bills were passed and you may find out a week later...not through a news breaking email.

The good ol' days were when:
1. marriage was between one MAN and one WOMAN
2. abortion wasn't encouraged and promoted
3. liberals weren't making up laws telling you what you can do and can't do in your car and home
4. patriotism was in the hearts of every American
5. disciplining your child wasn't confused with 'abuse'
6. The Ten Commandments, prayer and God wasn't being attacked
7. Society didn't embrace homosexuality with open arms.
Should I go on?
8. kids fought their battles in school WITHOUT guns, knives and boxcutters.

Not me, man - the "good old days" are NOW. Can't relive the past, and who'd want to? You need to worry about TODAY. And life is what *you* make it. But I have a feeling you already know that.
Although, now that you mention it, I *do* wish we'd get another Reagan....

I guess the fourties and earlier. Before we "long haired freaky people" started speaking our minds. People were very conforming and into money. Women kept their roll in the kitchen, not in the workplace.
