I started taking Met in early November. I had my second round of lab work done the 1st week of February and most of my hormone levels were back in normal range!

I have never had a decrease in carb cravings- I just know which upset my stomach and try to stay away from them.
As for the weight loss- havent lost any yet- but I did stop gaining weight!

My period never went away- I was just having really long cycles that were getting longer by the month. My period became regulated as soon as I started on the Met! I dont know if I just got lucky or if this is normal!

As for side effects- the first few weeks I had horrible stomach pains, but as my body adjusted they started to go away. However- if I eat sugar or a lot of bad carbs I spend the next day in the bathroom. Also I need to eat at regular intervals throughout the day or I get light headed. Metformin works with your insulin- so it messes with your blood sugar-keep snacks on hand!

I have found that I need to take my pills with a full meal in order to avoid stomach problems, but some woman can take it with a cracker and be fine! Also- alcohol can upset your stomach as well (straight sugars!) I can get away with a glass or 2 of wine here and there, but no more then that!

Good luck!

I ovulated and had a period within a month of starting metformin. I'm not sure if my carb cravings decreased because of metformin, or because of how I eat...I tend to eat lower carb, or complex carbs, with the occasional desire for white bread. I had some nasuea early on, but that was mostly an issue with not taking the met with the right amount of food (I've got friends on it who take it with a glass of milk and they're fine. If I don't eat enough food, I'll be sick to my stomach in a bit.) The big side effect, and one I still deal with is the diarrhea. It did get better/less frequent as time went on, but I take a fiber supplement to help with that, and an over the counter anti-diarrheal medication as needed. The other real side effect is that I find if I eat too many simple carbs at once, I have a major crash. I get jittery and clammy, and sleepy and lightheaded. When I've done that, I tend to sleep it off, and have a little juice and a snack when I get up. The weightloss started within the first month.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17. I am now almost 20. When I first started metformin and sprirolactone I stayed so sick to my stomach. But after a couple of weeks I was fine. I have never really noticed a decrease for carbs I still love em. As far as having a period I got put on birth control. For the past two months I stopped taking my birth control and haven't had on yet. We wanted to try conceiving on our own but it's not looking to hopeful.
