Why do YOU think slavery was a good or bad thing and why do we still have people out here who do not like blacks?

i think slavery was the greatest american institution of all time. think of how good our economy would be today with a slave market..id would invest in some slaves!

Slavery was the most ridiculous institution in ever. Greed was the reason slavery came about, and after that, technology came to a stand still. No one had the motivation to come up with new standards of mass production because cheap man power was doing all the work. After slavery, things started to develop (post-Reconstruction). But, the worst of it is the lack of moral standards...the inhumanity of the planter elite is appalling to think about. It was a gross time period, and unfortunately, it is still happening today. Even some people who are making money are tied to slave wages in some countries. So, no...I hate slavery! It is a bad thing for sure!!!

What is bad about it is obvious. From what I understand, the slavery that they came from was just as bad if not worse. While coming to America benefited the Black race after they were set free, their ancestors that were forced here had to leave loved ones and everything they knew behind. We still have people who do not like Blacks because the ignorant racists will always be with us.

No, I do not think it was a good thing. You know there is a theory floating around that states that if the Trans-Atlantic slave trade had not taken place, the world would be a much better place. Although the connection is not obvious but slavery led to a lot of world events

Uhmm. I think it is not a good thing. I believe having a maid is different from slavery or what. You may have someone there who helps you in return of money. Slavery is the act of making someone inferior to you by means of orders that he or she should do. I don't think it's nice. Well, that's just my opinion.

im guessing you're specifically talking about american slavery of the blacks. it was not a good thing, however, america would not be what it is today without it. much of the US was built on the back of slavery. and because moral evolution leads to civil war in many developing countries, it was necessary in order for america to become great.

Slavery was an unfortunate product of its time, as was the holocaust, but today many blacks & jews still have to rake up the past at every opportunity.
Re: People not liking blacks.
Following an 'cry-race' incident, resulting in the suspension of my level 3 yahoo a/c, I now have a total hatred of african-descended blacks. (And they wonder why after all these years, they're still unable to integrate within a civilised society..)
Previously, the only race I hated were the samalians..

No, slavery was horrible and inhumane. People are people, human beings, no matter what color their skin is and no matter which language(s) they speak. God made us all and God loves us all. We still have racist people in this world because they are morons, they think the color of their skin somehow makes them superior to others not realizing that God is watching over them seeing how they are discriminating against his creations and if they don't realize their actions are mistakes and repent and beg for forgiveness I will hate to see the day God comes down and judges each one of us individually.
BTW, if it matters, I am white...85% German, 15% Irish and my boyfriend is 100% Guatemalan, born in Guatemala, came here when he was 6 years old.

Bad thing: Slavery was and still is a despicable practice. The slave is robbed of all independence/freedoms, including human freedoms (virtue, marriage, maintaining children, maintaining family).
In order to maintain authority, the "host" society scapegoats the slave and his/her culture. The resulting prejudice is handed down from one generation to the next.

take it from me and I am black any type of slavery is not good and there are many forms of slavery besides what happened to black people in this country.
People hate people for no reason and they also hate their own race, so it really doesn't matter that they hate blacks.
Most people who hate humans hate themselves first..always remember that when you experience hateful actions from others..they hate themselves first before they hate you. So until they learn to love themselves, there is no help for them and their hatred.
Don't waste time worrying about this---just make sure they don't hurt you physically or emotionally.
