Goth-well, it all depends on what type of goth your talking about. Are you talking about a Romantic Goth, a Cyber Goth, and Vampric Goth, etc. It all just depends. Goths are normally creative and very very open minded. They are those types of people with an attitude of "won't attack unless provoked." and they are very nice. Most of them. There are plenty of christian goths, along with pagan goths. Not that it matters.
Goths is more a mind set than anything else. You can dress up in a pink bunny suit and still be goth.
Emo-emo is someone whose more in tune with their emotions than most people are. Not all emos are sad. I've met an "emo" who was hardly ever sad. But, he normally was either super happy or super mad. Scene is when is someone just dresses emo. Just thought I'd add that.
Although last time I checked emo ment emotional hardcore, which is a musik genre, not a style. Aw well.
Oh yes, not all emos cut. Plenty of people who aren't emo cut too.
Just thought I'd clear that up.

Goth to me (having teenage boys) are the people that dress 'dark' wear the whole make-up thing, with the white face, dark eyes, cool kinda vampire-ish clothes...and then the Emo's are the ones that just don't know how to fit in whithout "OMG..i'm going to slash my wrists because I don't choose to deal with reality. I do hope that doesn't sound nasty...(as you asked, ) but I didn't know any other way to put it. Regardless, you'll all grow up eventually, and neither Goth or Emo will matter what-so-ever Live it, love it, wherever your heart and soul leads you. Thats the most important thing :]

Both are ways for insecure teenagers to act like they are part of something bigger. Which unfortunately has no real goal except for getting attention and looking cool. It's a conglomerate of rejects desperately wanting to be the blind sheep they despise. I'm friends with many people that dress gothic and emo but they would never say they were though haha. Which makes me think you’re just some middle schooler also trying to find belonging in a pathetic attempt to make your worthless life easier. I am constantly depressed and it pisses me off that depression has now become a part of capitalism. Where all the kiddies want to jump on the wagon and pretend to be depressed to fit in. Bu I would be ignorant to think all of them are stupid people trying to be part of a fashion trend. But I definitely think most of them are. The big difference is Goth is more into heavy metal alternative rock. And emo is more into pop rock and emo music. I’m a huge fan of emo music such as bright eyes. But now those idiots claim Hawthorne Heights and groups like them are emo and totally ruin the entire genre.

Goths dress in all black and wear the make up. Emos are sad because someone broke their heart. Both types of music are terrible.

Goth people are just poeple who dress in all black and smoke pot and just dont really act happy. Emos are kids who dress in really tight clothes, cut their wrists, listen to the worst music, and are constantly complaining about how terrible their lives are, even though they aren't. I personally hate emos, but dont mind goths because they dont complain.

Clothing as far as I can tell. Both are wholly depressing so I haven't paid much attention. At least Goth has some better music, Emo music is putrid.

20 years! LOL! I'm 35, a mom of a 15 year old, and I'm pretty sure 'emo' is the new word for goth. Younger kids might say there's a difference, but I think it's just not cool to use your parent's word!
