Take the Prescott. This way later on you can upgrade to a C2D if you want.

The only thing I don't like of the Prescott's is they run a bit hot (but not really a problem) suggest some AS5.

Heh, you're probably going to get a sleugh of answers on this one. lOl.

The "Best Processor" debate between AMD and INTEL can get heated at times. To make it worse, you try to look at it logically and just look at benchmark tests. The problem with that is that depending on where you look AMD wins and on other sites/magazines, INTEL wins.

So, to answer your question to the best of my ability, I will simply tell you what I swear by. I swear by AMD. They use a vastly different architecture on their chip. The facts are simple. You look at the new INTEL chips and see that they 're running at 3 - 4ghz +. And the new AMD chips are only running at 2 - 3 ghz +. Why is it then that the AMD chips WAY out-perform the INTEL chips? Simple, architecture. The AMD chips are designed intelligently and don't require such a high Ghz rating to achieve speed. I've been running AMD for 10+ years now and I would never go back.

However, according to the choices you've provided, I would suggest the AMD by far. But if you can afford it, you'd be FAR better of to get an AMD X2 chip. That's what i run and the speed is AMAZING.

I play WoW, while listening to winamp and having PDF batch processing running in the background at the same time with not a single hiccup in the system. I'm a big gamer, and if you ask just about any gamer that's SERIOUS about gaming, they'll tell you that AMD/Nvidia's the way to go.

I know this has been long winded, but I'm trying my best to help you.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I suggest the AM2. It is because the motherboard used for this processor can still be upgraded. While the LGA775 COULD be outdated and cannot be upgraded to either a Pentium D or a Core2Duo processor.
