When we see the moon, what we call moon shine is due to the light of the sun shining on the moon's surface. We are just seeing a refletion of the light of the sun. Think about that the next time you stroll in the moon shine.

I think the reflection on the moon from the sun makes it look like it shines. When the moon isn't full, the earth is in the path of light between the sun & moon. Thats what I know to be true, answer may need some clarification.

Is this a trick question? The moon shines because it reflects the light from the sun.

Moon shine is a reflection of the sun's light. The changing of the moon is the shadow of the earth falling across it and blocking the sun's light. You can still see the moon when it is a "new moon" but it is not bathed in the sun's light.
looks really cool though.

The moon doesn't shine, not like the sun anyway. What you are seeing is the reflection of sunshine off of the moon.

It is where (Sailor Moon) Queen Serenity, King Endymion, Small Lady, and the Sailor Scouts live of course! She defends the moon kingdom, not really why it shines in the real world but why it does in the Anime.

Because the moon is reflecting light from the sun. When we see the moon, we see the past: we are seeing images from 1 second in the past. When you see the yellowy ball that is our sun, you're also seeing the past: an image from 8.minutes ago.

back in the dawn of time, the moon and the sun often competed each other for power as the center of the universe. the moon was no match for the sun; however, Moon did not succumb just yet.

the moon refused to relinquish to the sun, so in retaliation, it absorbed a proportion of the sun's luster every night and wore it as its own.
