After getting a bachelors in Nursing from a 4yr university , how do you get into a specific area of concentration such as pediatrics or family practice? I do not get how you get a position as a nurse after getting a license as a general nurse??
thanks.

If you want an area of specialty you can get your masters degree. However, the best thing that you can do is meet with nurse recruiters at the hospitals that you would like to work at. They will help place you in the best areas that you are suited for. They also help you get sign on bonuses if it applies. They are located in the HR departments at most major hospitals. I would call and speak to one. That is what my friend did and she works in L&D and loves it.
Hope this helps and good luck.

Anyone with a four year BSN should be able to pick and choose where you want to work. Usually recruiters show up at graduation time. This question seems kind of odd. You just apply at the hospital of your choice. They'll tell you which areas they have openings. Specialty areas, like pediatrics and obstetrics, are usually more sought after than general areas like med. surge or ortho. If there isn't an opening in the area you are interested in, you could take a position in another area and when there are openings in the area you prefer, apply as an in-house applicant. Most hospitals will give first choice to people already in their employ before hiring outside.

you just have to apply at a field you want, most hospitals offer a new grad program, some offers 3 months orientation...some gives 6...i believe even MSICU and CVICU or ER gives 6 months orientation. ..same with pediatrics...so yeah...just think of a field of practice u want and good luck...while u are there u will get the certifications that will eventually get ur field to become your specialty

you merely answer an ad in the paper----show up with your license in your hand and they put you to work so fast your head will spin.
