I'm 25. Usually when I make friends requests on MySpace, Yahoo! 360 or any other online community I keep them between an age range of 18-30 unless I know that person offline as well. However, on depressiontribe I have friends ranging from 16 to 47. Depressiontribe is like MySpace but only for people with depression, bipolar disorder, and other mental health issues. Since it's a more limited community I feel more comfortable expanding my age ranges. However, what would you consider a reasonable age spread? For a 25 year old is 18 an appropriate lower limit, or could I go lower? Or should I go higher? How about 30? Good upper limit? Or could I go higher? Should I stick to the 18-30 age range in all communities, even special interest ones? Note that I'm not interested in dating. Just friendly conversation and communicating with people from other parts of the world and different lifestyles than me. Thanks.
