I have been reffing for 8 years. AR is, in my opinion, more boring and annoying than being a center. As an AR, you constantly have to stay in line with the last defender, have a hawk's eye on the touch line, and at the same time observe live play and handle substitutions(assuming your league most likely doesn't employ 4th officials). Stay with that last defender at all times, you would be surprised how quickly you can be caught off guard. You must eminate confidence; when the ball goes over the touch line, think for a second if neceassry, but as soon as possible, whip the flag at a 45 degree angle in the direction of where the winning team of the throw is attacking. On throws, you watch the player's feet, while the center watches their torso for throw-in violations. Otherwise, watch live play. If you catch a foul on your half of the field, wiggle the flag straight above your head; let the referee stop play, then point in the direction of the kick. The ref may confer with you to confirm the decision. Otherwise, be professional, clean, shirt tucked in, completely dressed in the proper apparel, and have fun.
