My mac keeps ejecting the Tiger installation disc. I checked apple.com troubleshooting and it says that I need a superdrive update. When I download that the update it tells me that it is only necessary for models equipped with a SuperDrive and won't allow me to go any farther. The disc drive was repaired once in the past. What can I do?

Hi kerrih11,

Sorry that you're experiencing some problems. The Tiger OS installation disk is on a DVD disc, so you need to have a disk drive that can at least read DVDs (such as a SuperDrive).

Go up to the blue Apple icon at the top-left of your screen and down to the About This Mac menu command and then click on the "More Info..." button.

This will launch your Mac's System Profiler. Click on the Hardware arrow so that it expands the various hardware parts of your computer. I clicked on Disc Burning and it gave me what the name of the SuperDrive and what it's capable of doing.

Does yours say that it can view and burn DVDs? If not then you don't have a drive capable of reading your Tiger installation disc. You can't download anything that will make a CD-ROM disk to read DVDs. It doesn't work that way.

I hope that this works for you.

To install Tiger, you need to restart your Mac with the installation DVD in the drive. Hold down the "C" key while it is booting to boot the mac up from the disc. Best of luck to you.

maximum laptops have a touch hollow close to the eject button. Straighten a paper clip, and placed it in the hollow. The cd/dvdpersistent could open. The paper clip journeys the closed mechanism and shall we it open. If there is not any hollow, then i visit no longer help.

Does it accept other DVDs? If it does, your Install Disc might be defective. Call Apple if you still have warranty.
