When Roy Williams left Kansas four years ago I was disappointed and somewhat bitter towards him for breaking his promise at the end of the previous season. He said that he would end his coaching career at Kansas. When Bill Self became the new head coach I was somewhat reluctant to welcome him with open arms thinking he would never be able to fill William's shoe's. But what he has done for the Jayhawks has been outstanding. Not only has he been able to fill William's shoe's but could quite possibly do something that William's could never do and that is bring the championship home to Kansas.

When you're coaching at perhaps the most respected basketball program in the history of college basketball, answering the call to expectations of media, fans, students, alumni and everyone else is obviously not an easy task.

Coach Self has answered the call and for the most part silenced the critics. He is as fine of a coach as there is in college basketball and is on the brink of winning a national championship.

As a former KU student and a life long Jayhawk fan, I respect him as a coach and love him as a person. He fully represents the University with class and integrity and it is my hopes that he never leaves the position and retire as the winningest coach in KU's illustrious history.

I think Bill Self has created his own identity at Kansas, this is a different team than Roy Williams. I think he's a great coach, couldn't have picked a better guy, and it seems like he's in it for the long haul. They have a legit chance to win it all this year, maybe even a better chance than Roy Williams and North Carolina.

Coach Self built his own identity at K.U. Now that he has his own players that he has recruited he is a phenomenol coach. Like you, I was angry at Roy Williams. I feel like he turned down the first offer to go to UNC because he wanted to see what Hinrich and Collison could do in the tournament. When they got beat he wanted another shot. I don't like the way it all came down. Kansas is better off with Self than Williams.
