I found a bug in the bathroom sink that resembled a centipede. After online research, I believe it's a house centipede. Are there such things in Illinois and how common are they?

Yes, they are predators of roaches. Figure out where the roaches are getting their water, possibly a leaky pipe. Caulk everywhere to confine the house centipedes and roaches within the walls.

Yes, keep everything as dry as you can even the air. They are far and few and do not bother you if that helps, mabbe I see 2 a year.
