If this is a sepentine belt, you have to pry the belt tensioner all the way against the spring action to get the belt on.

Here is what I found in auto zone for your vehicle.

You need to buy the Haynes Repair Manual cuz it would have the pics for you and you would be thru in 5 minutes.

But anyway, you have a automatic belt tensioner. I could not make heads or tails on the site. But it will be a round pulley all by itself. Example the power steering pump has a pulley that the belt goes around but this is for the pump. The tensioner will one of two types. I think yours is the kind if you look, you have to loosen a bolt, maybe behind the pulley to allow the pulley to lower so you can place the belt over it. My ford escort was like this. Also, if you are lucky, there should be a diagram on the engine by the radiator somewhere of the path that the belt goes and might even point out the tensioner for you. If I was there I could figure it out in maybe a whole 5 seconds. lol

The second type is when you see the pulley by itself. See if you can move it up or down a little. If you can then you get a wrench I think a 11/16 or 5/8. If you put it on the bolt and turn clockwise it will bring the pulley down so you can put the belt over it. Now you might have to put the belt over that pulley and then turn the nut, bring the pulley down and then you would use another pulley maybe the one from the power steering unit to put the belt over. You may have to do this if you can not fit the wrench and put the belt on the same pulley at the same time..

You should have a small idler pulley that sits by itself. This pully should have a bolt in its center, maybe a 13 or 14 mm.This bolt will operate in a cam like motion on an internally mounted spring. When you turn the bolt to the left it should drop the pully downward on its axis allowing you to slip the belt over the top of the pulley to put it in its proper position, then just release the pressure on the bolt to allow the idler pulley to tighten itself on the belt, and voila, you are in business my friend..GOOD LUCK.

Your pump should have an adjustment screw on the bracket that shifts the pump. Just loosen it up and aqueeze the belt on.
