Note that if you have the wizard's tower mod and at least journeyman in mercantile, you can sell anything to Aurelinwae in the Imperial City marketplace (in the mystic emporium) - she had 2000 available gold and a mercantile skill of 6, so you can bargain pretty high with her.

To easily reach a higher mercantile skill, sell something cheap - like arrows one by one by one, or do the Dar-Ma quest in Chorrol ("A Shadow over Hackdirt"). You get a boost of 5 to your skill. Yay!
