Their are two sides to the coin. Some scientists say there is absolutely no scientific evidence that it works. Practitioners of it and patients claim it does. Some studies suggest it may, others think it may be a "placebo" effect (i.e. the person loses weight because they *think* they will, and stick to their diet, etc.).
The bottom line is this, it can't hurt to try. While I consider myself to be a scientist, I am also open to complementary medicine, and believe that if it can't harm the patient, it is fair game. Also make sure you see someone who is properly licenced to provide this service, like a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine or an ND.
Just make sure to follow a healthy diet and exercise program as well. Seeing a Registered Dietitian and keeping a food journal is a good start.
Good luck!

Don't know, you've left it a bit late to discipline him now, you should have started years ago it seems. As you know, eat less and move more is the only way to lose weight, sticking needles into him isn't going to help, although if he hates needles it would seem to be a motivator if he doesn't lose weight you stick him with needles. That'll work. ETA "If calorie counting and conventional medical nonsense was so effective there wouldn't be any obese people." Would this be medical nonsense such as "get at least 30 minutes of vigorous exercise at least 3 times/week"? Or "cut down on fats and fast sugars and make sure to eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables"?

It is good for many differ ant type of pain relief. Like anything else, if it works for a few things well! Then all the sudden it will work for anything. It is just good business.
I have tried. With no avail.
I did lose wait by myself, just by the usual. Eat better, eat less, and good old fashioned exercise. This may not be what you would like to hear. But it is the truth.
Do not waste your time with acupuncture and their energy/yin and yang/ meridians/ heat/ cold/ and funny smelling herbs. It does work for somethings but not weight loss!
Good luck!

I am not sure about the losing weight part, but it does work. I couldnt straighten my left arm. I went to an acupuncturist and after 2 or 3 visits, I could. That was over 10 years ago, and still to this day, I have no problems with it.
He also had my legally blind mother reading normal print.

Do your grocery shopping with a list and a moment limit; that way, you're more unlikely that to stray into the refined foods section.
