Why do we have to have all of these socialistic programs that the dang hippie/left wing Americans keep promoting? If they want to live in a more socialist country why dont they move to Canada instead of try to change our country? There is plenty of countries out there that are socialist, unfortunately Americans do not want to pay the taxes that these socialist programs bring with them.

Just want to add I am not for total Capitalism, just to get rid of some of the government funded programs that could be privately run so more more could be used for education and such. Im not against taxes just again government controlled health care. I look at it this way, there is plenty of countries out there that offer free health care with a tax price and if you want free health care, why not go to that country. I just want to keep the control in the private sector as opposed to government controlled social welfare. Everyone has equal opportunity to do what they want and should be treated equally. I dont think Joe Blow who decides to not use his full potential should be entitled to free health care and money at the expense of somebody that worked hard to get where he/she is.

Pure capitalism is a dangerous thing. Fortunately we are pretty far from it. Unfortunately, socialism, which is also dangerous, seems to be spreading like wildfire in this country. Eventually it will reach a breaking point and the Goldwater/Reagan Republicans will have to come in to save the day.
I hope that day is soon.

Because several decades ago the liberals/socialists took over the education in public schools pretty much. They eliminated most of the courses about Civics and American History and Geography.
Now most Americans under the age of 50 have never learned the truth about America. What little they did learn was spun in a negative light. So they are much more easily mislead by socialists who want to end capitalism and everything else that has made America great.
You see, when Socialism failed in places like Russia the socialist mind set was not that the system is wrong but that they tried it in the wrong kind of country. They have published many many books on the subject. Their current thinking is that they needed to find a more industrial country (like this one) that that would make the difference. Ever since they have been slowly dumbing down the citizens, making them distrust their government, starting class envy, diluting the American culture, promoting more and more wealth redistribution through social programs, making you mistrust the election process, etc.
All this, if left unchallenged, will gradually change America from the land of liberty to another weak and miserable socialist nightmare.
This is why I don't really blame the young people who are so sure that all this liberal nonsense is Gospel. If they were educated in public schools especially in coastal areas, it is hard to resist the propaganda. It is all they have been taught. To them, morality is recycling your soda cans. It is a serious problem. I try to reach as many and I can.

Social services is a good thing until government forgets to follow up. Take a good look at the headlines.
Too many young people have children that only had them to receive government benefits. When the responsibility of actually caring for the children occured, murders start happening, and unfortunately its not the adults that are murdered by the younglings.
Bottom line, don't set up a government social program that cannot be afforded or controlled.
Don't blame the educated ones either for civil problems because they stayed in school and others dropped out.
STAY IN SCHOOL.

well... it can be a fine line...
but I think many of the programs we have today helped pull us out of the great depression... along with the war... and that many of the programs are as America as apple pie, since they have been around so long...
some may even say that perhaps you should start your own country, if you don't like the social programs we have...
and most Americans must like them... because I see people that campaign on cutting them losing left and right?
even the Republicans didn't touch them with 6 years of dominance...

You've got to be joking.
Name a major industrial country that is more capitalist (besides Singapore, where you wouldn't last a week as a citizen).
Name one single socialist program (besides Federal subsidies for corn production and cost offsets for pharmaceuticals - let's say that those don't count, just for this question).

Capitalism must remain in USA because it is the system that make it a superpower. Socialism is not suited for Americans because there is less freedom and no free enterprise.

Most countries on the planet are more capitalistic than the U.S. They're the Third World countries. Even Mexico is more capitalistic. Want to switch govts. with them? Or switch populations?

Last time I checked, our country was not founded on the principles that capitalists ruled and everyone else suffered. I believe we live in a democratic republic where we elect representatives to pass laws that reflect our values. Therefore, social programs reflect the values of the majority of our population. Perhaps it is you that is out of step with the values of the United States and should move elsewhere?

privatization! that's the answer? Halliburton they will do everything ......and you think that will save money? Fraud, corruption, in government contracting is killing us, as taxpayers
and you want to give the corporations more control, we are now paying the share of taxes that they have found ways to avoid. Think!

What are you talking about taxes are an investment in your country, don`t you love your country? What a patriotic think to do, pay taxes. I am sorry you do not share the world view that we are all in this together instead of every man for himself.
