I received a line drive from a baseball right into my left eye. It swelled immediately and my left nostril was bleeding. I was coughing and spitting up blood when this happened. I have had nosebleeds but never spit up blood. My eye is still very swell and I noticed I am still coughing up blood here and there. But there are some clear phlegm too. I got hit 6 hrs ago and the spitting blood here and there is scaring me. I didn't want to scare my kids so I stayed home and put them to bed..Can someone help me? Is this normal??

I would worry that the eye orbital bone is fractured. You're spitting up blood either because you got a nose bleed and it's running down your throat or there was bleeding connected with the possible bone fracture. Just to be safe, you should put some ice on the area, 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off, and go to the ER to get an x-ray. Hopefully you have someone who can watch the kids and you can go tonight. Hopefully your wait won't be too long at this time of night. Good luck, and don't worry.

No, you MUST go to the ER. With a head injury - ANY head injury - you should be monitored by a friend or family member for the first 24 hours after it happened to make sure you don't become delirious or unconscious. Seriously, you could fall asleep tonight and not wake up if you have internal bleeding or something. I don't want you to be too frightened. Just frightened enough to go. I know of someone who was punched in the face in a pub. He came home and was fine. He went to sleep on the sofa and in the morning his head had swollen up massively and blood was coming out of his nose and he was completely unconscious. He never regained consciousness and he died.

HEAD INJURIES ARE EXTREMELY SERIOUS AND THE FACT THAT YOU ARE STILL BLEEDING IS NOT GOOD. GO FOR YOUR KIDS IF NOT FOR YOURSELF

is the blood coming from your nostril or from your lungs? i cant imagine it coming from your lungs, is probebly just blood draining in your throat. Put some ice on your eye to help the swelling. Personally, I would have it checked as a line drive is a powerful hit to have taken.

Yes. Please go to the ER. A lot of people (including myself) feel like they shouldn't go unless it's a "real" emergency, but honestly? Most of the people that go are there for tiny things. You're not being a hypochondriac if you go for a reason that seems to you pretty serious. Obviously if you've put it off this long, you have a pretty good guage of what is and isn't an emergency, Good job, now tone it down and go the ER!

I wouldn't think that it is that serious. you are not going to die. the blood you are coughing up is most likely drainage from your nose bleed. Your eye should be swelling up that is normal. your eye might also be watering a lot. do go to the hospital. get checked out!

you need to get to the Emergency Room. You could have ruptured your retina in your eye and it could be hemorraging or it could have broken your nose but you need to get that eye checked out. You said your eye is swollen, well, focus with it shut, do you see anything moving around, for instance, something that looks llike a spider web or a circle floating around if so your retina has torn or is about to and you could lose your eye sight. sorry if this sounds scary been there and almost lost my left eye.

If it were me I would have gone straight to the ER. Sight is very precious and not to see my kids grow up and see their kids would be devastating to me as it should be for you. Don't wait any longer have your eye seen to before its too late, once your eyesight is gone it wont come back

Have someone come and keep your kids and hurry to the ER. That sounds serious and could end up getting worse if you leave it unchecked.
