Diamond = Pure Carbon

A diamond will not dissolve in acid.

Well you can not destroy a diamond but you can melt it with extreme heat

Diamond is the hardest naturally occurring substance, and is also one of the most valuable natural substances. Diamonds are crystals formed almost entirely of carbon. They are Joined by covalent bonds.Because of its hardness, the diamond is the most enduring of all gemstones. They are among the most costly jewels in the world, partly because they are rare.

A diamond is a transparent crystal of tetrahedrally bonded carbon atoms. Diamonds have been adapted for many uses because of the material's exceptional physical characteristics. Most notable are its extreme hardness, its high dispersion index, and high thermal conductivity, with a melting point of 3820 K, which converts to 6416.33 F and 3546.85 C.

They use Diamond in some glass cutting devices to make precise and sharp cuts.

Hence the saying "Diamonds are forever"

They also manufacture jewelry diamond which is not completely as pure as the ones mined.

Diamond is a network covalent compound composed of repeating units of carbon atoms joined to each other with covalent bonds. As a result the melting point of diamond is exceedingly high (3550 degrees C or 6358 degrees F).

However, if they are heated to a high temperature (over 2000 degrees F) and placed in liquid oxygen, they will burn to form cabon dioxide.

You can "break" a diamond by exposing it to a severe change in temperature, for example first freezing the diamond and then exposing it to extreme heat would make it crack.

Diamonds are brittle; a blow from a hammer will shatter one. And they burn in air to form CO2.

A HAMMER! just playin. but why would you want to break one? can i have a shard of it?

Burn it. It's pure carbon, you know. That's how early chemists found out that it was.
