Ok my question is who is most likely to deliver your baby, your doctor or someone on call at the hospital? If you are in labor in the middle of the night do they really call your doctor or just use someone on call? I have read my info from my doctor, but I was still a little confused. When I asked my doctor she said she may or may not depending on the situation at the time. So yeah whatever that means.

Basically...whoever's on call that night. If your doc is one of the ones on call (if you're talking about a big hospital there will likely be many), she will be called for you. I know what you mean, it would suck to have some doctor you don't even know deliver your baby after you've worked with another for so long. Luckily I'm going to a small hospital where my doc's the only OB! Bet he never gets a day off.

Usually if you go into labor during the regular work week, your doctor will deliver the baby. Some doctors rotate weekends and if it's not their weekend to be on call, then another doctor will deliver your baby. I was very lucky in my case since my doctor told me up front, no matter what he would be the one to deliver my baby. It just depends on the doctor and the timing. Hope this helps. :)

it would depend on your doctor...where i went, they called my doctor when i was in labor, she was able to come, but she also delivered at a different hospital, and worked out of a clinic in another city... it also depends on how close you are to having the baby, if you are about to give birth, i'm sure the first available doctor will deliver, if you have time, they will notify your doctor...and from there, they'll let you know the circumstance!! good luck!!

Usually it's the doctor on call. I was lucky enough the second time around to have a doctor that delivers her patients babies whether she's on call or not. But I live in a small town.

Quite offten they will call the doctor if the way your progesion will alow the doctor to make it on time for the birth but you still have to be dilated 9 cm before they will call them they don't want to call the doctor then have him/her wait for 4 -5 hours for you to go into full blown baby comming out labor!

I had 4 children over a period of 13 years. Different Dr.s and hospitals each time. Each Dr. told me they would TRY to be there, but always had another Dr. on call. (In one case, the Dr. had 3 associates and I met each of these ahead of time just in case MY Dr. was unavailable.) The other times, it would just have been whichever Dr. was on call at the hospital at the time. Fortunately, each time I went into labor, my Dr. was called and came to the hospital to deliver my baby. I had 2 night babies, and know lots of other people who also have had middle of the night babies. Unless your Dr. is sick or out of town, he or she will do their best to deliver your baby. Good luck!

If you're going to a hospital it will be whoever is on call, which might be your doctor but just as well might be someone else. If it is during the day you might notify your doctor and he/she might try to be there but it is not guaranteed. Just depends on the doc you've got.

I went with a midwife for my third baby and so the midwife was available 24/7.

yes your doctor does come in but he doesnt do anything until the very end. I had a wonderful nurse throughout my labor, she was so nice and helped me through everything. the doctor basically came in at the last couple minutes, caught the baby, tied up the cord, stitched me and left. Nurses should be paid more than doctors.

If your doc isn't there it will be the on call doc. I had my baby on a Saturday and had the on call doc!!! My doctor worked with a group of other doctors I went to the Woman's Clinic and it had many doctors, so if you doctor wasn't on call you would get another doctor from the group. I have heard of the same thing but at your appointments you switch doctors so that you know all of them.(kinda weird)

Usually if it is a small practice with just 1 Dr then that Dr is the one to deliver you. If there is more than 1 Dr in the office then they will rotate calls. My Dr has a nurse practitioner with him but no other Drs. She is on call for her patients and he for his.
