Well in your local phone book there should be a # to put in ... around here it is *69 and it calls them back.. you could also contact the phone company ... have time and date ready for them... they can block the number if they can pin point it... other then that your parents may want to get caller ID and either not answer or call the phone company with the number and have em' block it. OR change your number.

It must not bother your parents too much or I'd think they'd put aside whatever reservations they had about Caller ID just long enough to find out who is doing this and stop them. Other than that, I have two suggestions. First, let your phone machine or voice mail pick up all your calls first. Second, punch *67 on the phone after you get one of those calls. That will ring back the last number that called you (The Phantom) and then you'll be able to find out who is doing this. Call your phone company first to double check that it's still *67 though. That was a long time ago, before Caller ID was around.

I wouldn't be so quick to be scared. Here are a couple of scenarios I dealt with:
Police told me to call the phone company, phone co. told me to call the police. One guy at the phone co. was very empathetic but told me there is not much they can do unless I am willing to spend a lot of money on "such and such" block. Mind you, I have caller ID -these days I don't find it to be of much use to be honest. It is very easy to have your call "blocked" and *69 is really worthless, and the nice guy at the phone co acknowledged to me that the area it covers is very small, very! He also informed me that most of the, "late night" calls are coming from overseas, according to their investigations. One particular caller that was calling me at the same time three times a day, at the same time, everyday!!! I finally figured it out for myself. It was driving me nuts!! Being a daysleeper due to work made it even worse. I noticed the phone number on a creditcard bill was close to the number that was calling me. (you couldn't *69,nor just dial the number back for some reason) When I called them( # on bill) they said that when they use their automatic calling machines, it waits for a voice to answer and then it will respond back after maybe up to30 seconds!! A solicitation call! Don't know about you, but if I pick up the phone I dont wait long for you to talk to me after I have said hello? So I hope these give you some other ways to look at your situation. I think with everyones reponses here you are pretty well armed to talk to the phone company or the police. Do what feels right to you. Good luck!

This happened to me once. I called the phone co. & was told to write down the time of each of the calls. They can then tell who the caller is.
I also read that the caller is someone we usually know; I suspected it was a co-worker. At lunchtime I told people at my table (but everyone in the room could hear) about what the phone co. told me to do & I received no more calls after that day!

I have had the same thing in the past but didnt think much of it
-call your phone company and get the phone number changed, (and be carefull on who you give your number to) but its not free but its much cheaper than paying for caller id besides caller I.D. doesnt always work and says "unknown number"
- we have a "TTY" so we can talk to some deaf friends of ours but it also helps against people like that, they seem to hate the noisy beeping it makes. >;)

im not 100% sure but i believe its *57 on your phone and it traces and records the origin of the last call with the phone company. should work even if the number is blocked. might depend on state laws but after so many traces to the same number you can prosecute.

first, file a telecommunication harassment complaint with your local police department....make sure you obtain the report number...
second, contact your phone company's harassment department and advise them of your problem....provide them the police report number...
third, if it happens again...make sure to record the time/date of the calls....the phone company tags the incoming calls for about a week or two...
third, if the number of the anonymous person is available then it gets forwarded to the police department....and a follow up should be conducted by the police department....
lastly, if you go through the trouble of all of this....follow through with the criminal charges, so all the time spent to investigate annoying phone calls does not go to waste...
good luck..
