Since at 18 we can be shipped off to Iraq or other area of conflict I believe that we should be granted all of our adult rights. Also most teens can be convicted as adults even if they are under 18.

There is no federal drinking age. It's a myth. There are individual state drinking ages and most of them are 21. The drinking age in Hawaii is 18.

No. The reason is car accidents. 18 year olds are already high-liability drivers. They haven't had the responsibility of driving long enough to take on the added responsibility of driving sober.

The logic of war at 18 is silly. If that's how you feel then don't sign up until you are 21. It is voluntary, you know?

Also, by suggesting you should be granted all adult rights at 18 are you also for lowering the age of handgun purchase to 18?

Absolutely 100% NO! Why? Because if you see how many serious and sometimes deadly accidents occur around graduation time by teens drinking, and you were to see the accident scenes, you would be against it too. Just because you are considered an adult at 18, does not mean you can have all the "fun" of being an adult. Research has found that the brain is still growing and developing even into a person's early twenties. It is even said that adolesence is something that goes into the early twenties as well. Maturity has a lot to do with it too. . However, once you are 18 yrs old, you have a choice of college, or work. High school is over and on to the adult life. Also, I had a friend killed by a drunk driver when she was only 24 yrs. old. And one of her family members as well. Maturity could/would also bring on the realization that alcohol is not needed to "enjoy" adult life. Booze tastes bad. It kills off brain cells. It damages the body in other ways. If an adult wants to drink alcohol, they need to either stay home and not go anywhere while drinking, and after a good night's sleep, or have a sober designated driver if out and about. Even for adults who are in their 40's and up.

No.

People are not "shipped off to Iraq." When people join the army, navy, or marines, they understand that there is the possibility of going to war. It's not like they randomly choose any 18 year-old and send them to the Middle East.

Minors should be convicted as adults based on the crime they committed. We can't just let a 15 year-old kid get away with killing hundreds of people just because he's under 18.

Once a person reaches the age of 18, that does not necessarily mean that they are mature.

Many high school students already drink. Lowering the drinking age would only facilitate reckless behavior.

I do not recommending changing the drinking age unless you are in the military where it should be 18. If they are responsible enough of protecting the country they are responsible enough to control there drinking habits. The only bad part is this could be a propaganda tool for the military to get new recruits.

With all do respect, people ages 18-21, you have the power to change this; but you choose not to.

If 75% of you voted, that would constitute a sizable political lobby. Civic activism attracts the attention of lawmakers (as it should). But 80% of you don't vote. So your legal fate is determined by the people who do vote (as it should, by your own choice), many of whom think the roads will be less safe if you are allowed to drink.

In short: vote or stop whining. This is the fundamental rule of a democracy.

I agree. However, MADD with the help of Elizabeth Dole were responsible for the increase in the drinking age. The rationale behind that was that the largest number of drinking and driving deaths were for people between the ages of 18 and 21. That number has increased dramatically since then.

I don't think so. I had to wait for 21 and so should all you! But seriously, I think that it should not be lowered because it would affect a lot of the students grades. You know, there are many 18 year old high school students.

Whats it matter. No one obeys the laws anymore. Politicians steal, Immigrants come in illegal. Drug dealers get shot and we send the border guard to jail and give the drug dealer some money to settle. Criminals usually get the better deal when it comes to crime vs what the victims get. Whos gonna give a crap. Thats half the fun when your 18, drink illegal and run from the cops. Great fun.
