What a wonderful gift, happy birthday. The computer is special and by completing it you will be finishing what your friend was unable to do. I'm sure your friend would be pleased. Complete the computer, use it often. It's a wonderful reminder of your friendship, think about it in reverse position wouldn't you want your friend to use it? I'm sorry about the loss of your friend. His mother wanted you to have it because she knew how special the friendship you had was. I'm sure she wants you to use it.
My mother passed away in September, she new a month ahead of time her cancer had turned terminal. She made lists of things she wanted to give people. Her biggest decision in deciding what to give people was will they use it. I'm sure your friend would feel the same way.
Enjoy the computer, but remember that your friendship will last longer than any possession on earth.

Wow, thats very sad. Anyway, you have to think that if it were his prized possession would he just want it to sit around and rot? Probably not! If I had an uncompleted work and i died i would want someone to finish it for sure (unless it were an artpiece or something). You have to think "what would they want". Thing is if you had a computer belonging to an old friend youll think about them whenever you use it. Plus their not gonna seek revenge on you i guess. So i say go for it if you want.

Use it and enjoy it. No there is no need to make a shrine for him out of the computer. Your memories of him are in your heart anyways. So finish it and say out loud, I did it for you how do you like it. And tell him you miss him and that you love him and he will be smiling back at you for sure.

I would finish it. Finishing something that he started would feel good.
My best friend died when I was 18 and I took all her animals (she was an animal freak and I'm not)...but I took care of all of them and I was sad when they all died. Hamsters, guinue pigs, fish, and girbles. I hated them all but I loved them and took care of them because they were hers.
My point is that she started taking care of them and i finished it for her since she couldn't.
Finish the damn thing...he would if he was here.

complete it and use it, don't be careless with it. Your friend probably would not have left it to rot so you shoulden't either.
