I would say about 6 months. It depends on the baby. Try not burping for one feeding and see how it goes. If the baby seems uncomfortable than it is too early.

You'll know when the time comes because you will hear baby burp up a storm even after you burp her. My daughter is 22mo and she makes the most voracious noises from her mouth (and butt) that it is embarrassing. She started to burp herself at about 8 mo I think but it is hard to remember for sure since I wasn't the best at burping her after bottles. (I never got it all out)

My son started burping on his own around 6 1/2 -7 months...He would drink his bottle and then roll over and burp real loud!!

I am not sure about burping on there own, but both my kids after 6 months old were alot less gassy.
