I think it depends on your relationship with that person. If someone asks me not to say something I wont. If they start to tread in territory I feel uncomfotable in I tell them not to go on- unless they really want my opinion.

It depends. Is it personal in nature between two friends? It may be grounds for the person to break the friendship if you repeat the information...even if it is something illegal or harmful in nature, where the person's best interests would be to receive help as a result of you sharing the information.

Job or school related is a different ballgame.

So, bottom line, you have to use your own resources, and evaluate the situation, and maybe consult someone (boss, friend, family, teacher, priest, etc) without revealing the information to see their opinion.

If you are told something private and you divulge that you are guilty of gossiping. Gossip is the lowest form of human communication and it will earn you everybody's mistrust. Would you trust someone who's betrayed your confidence?

It depends on the nature of the subject. In which case I would use my own instinct about passing that info on.

Just use your common sense. If what you are told sounds like something you shouldn't spread around then don't.

I don't repeat anything someone tells me. That's just gossip whether they told you to tell or not.
