I'm not necessarily looking to become a hockey player or a figure skater. I just want to learn how to skate well enough so I can play the occasional hockey game on the ice with my friends, or just go for the occasional leisure skate.

How long do you think it would take to learn some basic skating skills?

Hard to answer that without knowing where you are at right now with it, if you've roller skated/bladed before it will help you a lot.

Most people can pick up skating Forwards in a matter of hours, but stopping, skating backwards, and pivots in the corners are harder to "get" and will take more time. When I learned to play, we had an 8 week "Hockey school", not until we "graduated" from that were we allowed to play.

For what you want to do, sounds like a few weeks will be enough, although don't exactly expect to skate circles around everyone in your games.

Well if u just want to be able to glide around..like..not really that good of a skater but i still move..and be able to get on the ice anytime with good balance..idk maybe a month..but if u want to be able to play well during hockey games..could also be a month or two..or a bit more..if u get good lessons..cuz ive seen people skating for a while who were never taught to skate right..and when they try to hockey skate they look ridiculous

on a similar time as i does no longer say skating on the ice is way like driving a bike, extremely whilst your skating in a recreation putting, i do no longer think of that its going to be as complicated as you will possibly think of to get into it and not basically that yet get rather stable. My suggestion in case your seeking to get obtainable and play as quickly as a probability is get on the ice and skate as much as a probability, the extra you do it the extra comfortable you will become with it and you will possibly be able to bypass from there. you will hit a factor the place your backward and forward skating will become 2nd nature and once you get to that factor start up skating with a stick and pair of gloves. different than that only concepts your edges using fact thats a large style of what skating is all approximately. stable success and function relaxing!
